About
My name is Sophie and I set up Baby Moments UK back in 2012 after a chance encounter of a beautiful baby and foot casting on a prop making weekend course I attended. We weren’t learning about how to make these castings (they were just on the side in the teacher’s workshop). The moment I got home from the course I started researching as much as I could on how to create these castings, mainly because I was just so fascinated that you could capture something as special as this. After much research I had a rough idea on how they were created so I used my baby niece to try and take some moulds of her. These were not great castings but gave me plenty of ideas on how I could do better. I then got in touch with everyone I knew that had babies of all ages and asked if I could take hand and foot castings of their babies, gaining practice and more understanding for not just the mould taking but the finishing of the castings too. Following my new found passion/obsession for this type of art and my drive to make them perfectly, I decided to follow this idea, leave my full time job and put my everything into making my new idea a success. I knew deep down there would be a demand for hand and foot castings because they are so cute & babies are always being born! From a long time of trial and error I managed to perfect the art and knowledge on what materials work best, and also develop some techniques on the best way to position the baby and how to make sure I got perfect, professionally finished castings. After 8 years of making hundreds, possibly thousands of these precious castings, it’s safe to say I could make them with my eyes shut and have never regretted leaving my 9-5 job for this business and the fulfilling and flexible lifestyle it brings.
In 2015 after struggling to find the correct size pots to made feet mouldings, after much effort I found a company that could make me 2 perfectly sized foot pots to my own specifications, and the result was a neat, clean and practical pot perfect for my needs! From then on I felt like my business was finally complete! I now sell these pots to others who make castings, helping them to look professional, and using a specially designed pot for the task in hand (or you could say foot!).
After 8 years I have decided to move the business in a new direction and open up and share my skills with others, and offer courses to help you start up your own business. I would like to share with others exactly what I was looking for when I first started out, and tell you all the errors I made so you don’t have to waste time, money and stress making them. I would also like to share with others how lovely this job is. Its creative, you're making something someone will treasure for their whole lives and then their children will treasure them! Did I mention you get to see babies every day. What’s better than that?
